Position Overview
CITYCOT University is seeking a visionary and experienced leader to serve as the Dean of Information Technology. The IT Dean will provide strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of the university’s IT infrastructure, systems, services and fiscal activities within the IT Faculty, which includes programs in [Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering, Software Engineering, etc]. This role is critical in ensuring that the university’s technology resources effectively support its academic, research, and administrative missions.Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy that aligns with the university’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Oversee the management and maintenance of the university’s IT infrastructure, including networks, data centers, security systems, and communication platforms.
- Collaborate with academic departments to ensure IT resources meet the needs of faculty, students, and researchers, including support for online learning, research computing, and academic technologies.
- Develop and manage the IT department’s budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with institutional priorities.
- Establish and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data security, compliance with regulations, and optimal use of technology resources.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of IT professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. Oversee relationships with external vendors and service providers, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective delivery of IT services.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies and recommend their adoption to enhance the university’s IT capabilities.
- Lead the IT response to any cybersecurity incidents, technical failures, or other crises, ensuring minimal disruption to university operations.
- Work closely with other university leaders, including deans, department chairs, and administrative officers, to integrate IT initiatives with broader institutional objectives.
- Lead the evaluation and adoption of new technologies to enhance the university’s academic and administrative functions.
- Manage the implementation and integration of new systems and applications to support university activities.
- Oversee staff recruitment, development, and performance management within the ICT department.
- Promote continuous professional development and training opportunities for the ICT staff.
- Develop and enforce ICT policies and procedures to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Build and maintain relationships with alumni, industry leaders, and other stakeholders.
- Promote departmental achievements and engage in outreach activities.
- Organize events, such as lectures, workshops, and seminars, to foster a sense of community.
- Oversee student Enrollment, retention, and success initiatives.
- Ensure a supportive and engaging learning environment for students.
- Address student concerns and grievances related to the department.
- Promote student engagement in research, internships, and co-curricular activities and field training.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience in IT management, including at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Technical Skills*: Extensive knowledge of ICT systems, networking, cybersecurity, data management, and cloud computing. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, SAP) is an advantage.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. Strong project management skills with experience in leading complex IT projects.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic approach to addressing challenges.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to different campuses or external meetings.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work to oversee critical ICT operations or emergencies.
