Introduction

The CITYCOT University has developed Courses in the Health Sciences to mitigate the gap of shortage of health workers and add value to the community together with other partners by having a consequently prioritized health sector development, with the ambitions of providing essential healthcare to the ever growing population in Somalia. It’s a major contribution by academic institutions by assisting the government in building a stronger and more sustainable health system.

The purpose of the College to commit in taking her students for internal practical and an internship program is designed to equip students taking a health science course in transition from the classroom to clinical practice.

The students have an opportunity to have a-hands-on-experience in basic practicals and with a focus on their future plans for working in a Hospital, MCH, IDPs, Clinical centers whether in Public or private Health Sector.

There is an annual intake of 100s  students per semester and the institutions’ strategy and understanding is to equip the students and transform into medics by linking them as an internship with the Maternal Child Health (MCH), Hospitals and so on after they a accomplish the internal practical’s.

The Courses encourage non-trained students who are “practicing” as business entities to enroll and be equipped with the necessary skills.

  • ruse a well-rounded and diverse educational diploma completion program for health professionals
  • Enhance and develop the student’s leadership and health care knowledge through academic inquiry while using current, practical health care models.
  • To upgrade the skills and knowledge of health professionals by conducting varies practical both internal and internships

Practical skills of the faculty

The Citycot college has full practical lessons and well equipped laboratory including

  1. Nursing and midwifery laboratory
  2. Medical laboratory
  3. Public health and nutrition laboratory rooms

To make sure this faculty has a particular office of practical education which implements, evaluate and monitor all practical activists in the faculty.

The Training programs

Faculty of health science organizes training programs and courses to different departments of the faculty. Including Expended programs of immunization (EPI), Nutrition surveillance, clinical chemistry and basic nursing skills and more over.

Programs Duration

this is a Two-year program. Every academic year consists of two 16-week semesters of 29 weeks for theory and 3 weeks for practical field attachment.

DIPLOMA OF NUTRITION

The Diploma in Food Science & Nutrition course aims to develop competent professionals with the skills; knowledge and attributes in food chemistry, food microbiology, ingredient application, preservation & process technology, nutrition science and effective communication. The skills and attributes will allow them to contribute effectively and pursue a career in research & food product development, food safety & quality management, applied nutrition and food marketing in the food science, food manufacturing and nutraceutical industries.

DIPLOMA OF CLINICAL NURSING

Diploma Nurses play an important role in the healthcare sector.

Our course intends to advance the quality of life not just for academia purposes, but for the reproductive health, mental health, community nutrition, in charitable service or friendship, that makes a difference in any life.

The course imparts knowledge of administration, to manage the activities of Hospitals, Clinics and assist the staff in carrying out their duties effectively. The program aims at establishing grounds for research, in examining the cost related to the service, quality of patient care, policy analysis and delivery of health services. The students are helped in polishing their interpersonal skills and communicative skills which is much-required quality for undertaking this program.

Diploma in Nursing objectifies to skill candidates in becoming professional nurses and imparting care to the patients and community at large. This program opens up employment opportunities in the area of Nursing, Hospital Administration, Community Care and Health Care sector making them don the role of proficient nurses. The course aims to imbibe in candidates the necessary knowledge using different methodologies making them give out useful service to the society.

DIPLOMA OF CLINICAL MIDWIFERY

Midwifery is a whole lot more than just delivering babies.

It’s the professional care of mothers – before, during, and after the birth of their child. A combination of medicine and compassion, midwifery has been an honored and important profession for thousands of years.

your training will be split 50/50 between the classroom and work placements. You’ll study a range of modules, which will vary across institutions and courses, covering topics such as:

  • midwifery care in pregnancy and birth
  • midwifery care following birth
  • medicines management
  • critical care and complex needs
  • normal births, usually in the first year, followed by emergency births and high-risk pregnancies in the second and third years
  • research-based modules.

You’ll be assessed through a mixture of written exams, coursework and practical assessment.

DIPLOMA OF PHARMACY

The mission of the Department of Pharmacy is to advance the pharmaceutical sciences by performing drug-related research and research-based teaching. This happens within a range of topics including:

  1. Pharmaceutical technology and formulation
  2. drug delivery
  3. advanced drug analysis
  4. clinical and social pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy emphasizes further development of internationally recognized programs of research and education. We are committed to serve the Somali society and the international scientific community with the Departments knowledge.

MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc) degree was introduced to meet the needs of the medical diagnostic laboratory profession for a science-based academic qualification.

It’s curriculum is community oriented education and combines theoretical knowledge of the basic natural and medical sciences with the skillful use of sophisticated equipment and techniques to provide vital information that may be required for diagnosis and treatment of diseases, quality control, quality assurance and research to formulate the policies and measures for the prevention of diseases.
