Role Purpose

The IT Lecturer delivers high‑quality teaching and learning, develops students’ technical and professional skills, contributes to curriculum enhancement and assessment, provides academic advising, and upholds academic integrity to achieve measurable learning outcomes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Learning: Prepare and deliver IT courses (e.g., Programming I/II, Web Development, Databases, Networking, Operating Systems, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Neural Networks, and Robotics) with clear learning outcomes, weekly lesson plans, and practical labs (including applied ML labs and introductory robotics/embedded systems labs where relevant).
  • Assessment & Examinations: Design rubrics, quizzes, mid term and final exams, assignments/labs, and ensure fair, transparent, and timely marking and feedback.
  • Digital Learning & Tools: Use an LMS (e.g., Moodle/Google Classroom), classroom A/V, lab software, and library resources to enhance student engagement.
  • Curriculum & Quality Assurance: Participate in curriculum review and alignment with internal QA/Higher Education standards; maintain complete course files; and integrate AI/ML, Neural Networks, and Robotics content and assessment methods in line with emerging industry and academic best practices.
  • Advising & Student Support: Hold regular office hours; advise students on course selection, projects, and career pathways.
  • Scholarly/Professional Activity: Engage in light research, workshops, or community engagement projects relevant to IT—with emphasis on AI/ML, Neural Networks, and Robotics where feasible—and contribute to knowledge exchange through seminars or short courses.
  • Committee Work & Collegiality: Serve on faculty committees (Quality, Exams, Timetable, Research, etc.) and contribute to departmental initiatives.
  • Academic Integrity & Compliance: Adhere to institutional policies (attendance, plagiarism, exam security, HSE).
  • Stakeholder Communication: Respond to student/parent inquiries and participate in events (orientation, open days).
  • Performance & Accountability: Meet KPIs (e.g., attendance ≥ 90%, on time submissions, student course evaluations ≥ 4.5/5).
  • AI/ML & Robotics Expertise: Demonstrate deep understanding of Machine Learning (ML), Neural Networks, and Robotics; lead instruction, supervise labs/projects, and contribute to curriculum and applied research in these areas.
 

Workload & Hours

  • Contact Hours: 51 hours per week
  • General Working Hours: 07:30–12:00 & 16:00–20:00, as per University schedule

PERSON SPECIFICATION (JS)

Essential Requirements (Mandatory) (JS)
  • Education: Master’s degree (MSc) in IT/Computer Science or closely related field.
  • Teaching Experience: 3–5 years proven higher‑education/TVET teaching experience.
  • Languages: Somali and English (strong written and spoken proficiency suitable for instruction).
  • Pedagogical Skills: Lesson planning, classroom management, assessment design, and effective LMS use.
  • Integrity & Exam Security: Strong knowledge of academic integrity standards and secure assessment practices.

Desirable Requirements
  • AI/ML Teaching Experience: Prior university-level teaching in AI/ML/Neural Networks/Robotics and supervision of labs/capstones.
  • ML Tooling: Hands-on with TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, data stacks (NumPy, pandas), and model serving (e.g., FastAPI/Flask, Docker).
  • Robotics Stack: Experience with ROS/ROS2, sensors & actuators, OpenCV/computer vision, and embedded platforms (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson).
  • Cloud & MLOps: Familiarity with AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, Azure ML, plus MLflow/DVC for experiment tracking & reproducibility.
  • Applied/Research Impact: Publications or demonstrable applied AI/ML/Robotics projects and/or industry collaborations.
